La Junta Town Park

Three sets of improvements define the concept plan for the park.

The framework plan for La Junta Town Park works to restore the historic walls and park house, develop three sets of improvements including the Park Edge, Park Access and Program, and a Riparian Grove, along with a successional planting scheme reinforces park structure.

Goals for the project include identifying a series of improvements that can be implemented with minimal construction impacts, and maximum respect for history.

Improvements in the Riparian Grove include constructing ramps to provide access to water's edge, and permeable landscape zones to improve water quality and provide variety in the landscape. At the Park Edge, multi-use park edge paths and 'green shelters' will create a connection to the town, and Park Access and Program improvements will focus on modifying existing access to provide one-way loop with on-street parking and a green at the bandstand.

A multi-use path along the edge of the park creates usable spaces (left). Green shelters (right) provide shaded picnic areas and create outdoor rooms.
